How to Cancel an Amazon Prime Free Trial Before the Charge
The charge is not a trap, and cancelling is not a fight. A Prime free trial ends in one of two ways: it bills at the billing date, or you end the membership first. Everything else is scheduling, and scheduling is the part people get wrong.

The steps, in order
- Sign in to the account the trial is on, not a different one.
- Open your membership settings, where the Prime membership is listed.
- Choose to end the membership, and read the date Amazon shows you.
- Confirm the end date and write it down somewhere you will see it.
Then check your payment method list once more, so nothing bills on a plan you thought you had ended. Two dates matter here: when you cancel, and when the membership actually stops.
Here is the part nobody says out loud. Cancelling is a timing decision, not a loyalty one. You are picking a date, not making a statement.
The date that decides whether you are charged
Your billing date is the day the free trial becomes a paid membership. Cancel before it and the renewal does not happen. Cancel after it and you are into a paid period, and what that means is defined by the terms you agreed to, not by a rule of thumb.
So the target is not the last day of the trial. It is the day before the billing date, with a reminder you set yourself. Amazon’s settings do not replace your calendar.
What to expect after you cancel
Cancelling ends the renewal. Access usually continues to a date Amazon shows you, which is the number worth trusting. That gap is why cancelling and losing access read as two different things, and why the end date is the one to keep.
