- Open the app signed in to the account you want the membership on.
- Search for Prime and open the membership result.
- Choose the plan and attach the method on file or a new one.
- Read the confirmation, which carries the price and the billing date.
The screen that matters is the last one, and it is the one most people close in a hurry.
What is identical to the website
Everything that costs money. The plan choice, the payment method, the renewal terms, and the free trial eligibility are all the same account rules, whether you sign up on a phone or in a browser.
That matters because it removes a false choice. Signing up in the app does not lock you into anything the website would not. Benefits, billing, and cancellation all run through the same Amazon account.

Where the app helps, and where it does not
The app is convenient for the moment you decide, which is usually while you are already holding the phone. That is a genuine advantage, because a decision made and acted on beats a decision deferred to a laptop.
The drawback is the small screen. Reading terms is easier on a larger display, and the details people later complain about live in exactly those terms. If you are choosing between monthly and annual, do that read on whatever screen makes it comfortable. Then set your own reminder for the billing date.
Buy it if you already have the app open and you will still read the terms screen properly.
Skip it if you would be tapping through on a phone screen because it is the closest device. Convenience is fine. Rushing the confirmation is not.
