Amazon Music Prime vs Music Unlimited
Two services share one name and behave differently. The Prime tier of Amazon Music is included with the membership and comes with limits on how you play. Music Unlimited is the fuller service, sold separately. The difference is not the catalog. It is the control.

What the included tier actually does
Worth naming plainly. The included tier limits control, not the library. Playlists work. Picking every track does not.
It gives you a large library with constraints on how you reach it. Playlists and station style listening work well. Picking any track on any album, exactly in the order you want, is the part that pushes you toward the paid tier.
So the limitation is a control limitation rather than a song limitation. That is worth knowing before you decide the included tier is useless, because plenty of listening patterns never notice it.
Which listener you are
- Playlist listener: the included tier covers you, and the upgrade buys little.
- Album listener: you will feel the constraints quickly.
- Track picker: the included tier will frustrate you on the first evening.
- Already paying elsewhere: compare the two bills before adding a third.
The included tier is a real service with real limits. Calling it useless is as wrong as calling it complete. The honest question is whether your ears care about the constraint.
Deciding
Use the included tier for a couple of weeks and notice whether you keep reaching for something it will not do. If you do, the upgrade is buying you something specific. If you do not, you have saved a subscription by doing nothing.
That is the whole test, and it costs nothing to run. The best time to evaluate an upgrade is before you need it, using the tier you already have.

Skip it if playlists and stations are how you listen. The included tier is free with the membership, and free is hard to beat for a habit it already serves.
