Prime Video Ads with a Prime Membership
The streaming you get with Prime is the with ads tier. That is the plain version of it. Prime Video is included, the catalog is the catalog, and advertising runs alongside it unless you pay for the upgrade that removes it.

Where the ads appear
Worth naming plainly. The included tier is not ad free. The upgrade is, and even then some live content keeps its ads.
They run within the viewing experience rather than only before it, which is the part people notice most. Some live events carry advertising no matter which tier you are on, because the ad is part of the broadcast rather than the platform.
So "does Prime Video have ads" has two answers, and both are true. Yes on the included tier, and not always removable even on the paid one.
What ads do to the value
- For a substitute: if it replaces a subscription you were paying for, ads are the tax on a free-ish alternative.
- For an addition: if you were not paying for streaming, ads are an interruption you invited.
- For a heavy watcher: ad volume is the thing that decides whether the upgrade is worth anything.
None of that is a scandal. The tier is the price of admission. The ads are how the price stays where it is.
Deciding on the upgrade
The upgrade removes ads on eligible content for an added cost. Whether it is worth it is a question about your watching volume, not about the feature. Somebody who watches nightly will feel the ads sharply. Somebody who watches twice a month will not.

Buy it if the with ads tier replaces a subscription and the interruptions do not bother you.
Skip it if ads are the thing you were leaving behind. Paying to escape ads and landing back in them is the worst version of this trade.
