Is Amazon Prime Worth It Just for Shipping?
Yes, sometimes, and it is the cleanest way to judge the membership. Strip out streaming, reading, and the rest, and ask whether the delivery alone pays for the plan. A Prime membership that justifies itself on shipping is a solid purchase. One that only works with the bundle is a maybe.

The delivery only test
Two figures. Your effective monthly plan cost, and what one order costs you to ship without a membership. Divide the first by the second to get your break even in orders per month.
If your real order count clears that line, shipping alone is a yes, and everything else in the bundle is upside. If it does not clear, the membership is being carried by perks rather than by its headline benefit, and that is a weaker case.
Where the shipping only case fails
- Big, infrequent orders. One large basket a month can clear the non member minimum and ship free already.
- Slow but fine. If standard delivery is fast enough, paying for faster is a preference, not a saving.
- No real shipping cost. Some people simply do not pay for shipping today, so there is nothing for the membership to replace.
A saving only exists if there was a cost to save. That is the whole discipline of running this test before the perk list.
Here is the part nobody says out loud. Most people who join for shipping never actually pay for shipping. They pay for speed, which is a preference, not a cost.
Bringing in the rest, in order

What to avoid is adding perks you would never buy on their own. A benefit you would not pay for separately is not evidence that the bundle is cheap.
